Our History
The Eastern Hillsborough Community Band (EHCB) is a concert band founded in the Spring of 2009 in the Tampa Bay area. The band’s founder, Kim McKamey, of Plant City, has been with the band since it was founded and still plays trumpet with us.
EHCB began rehearsing in a small church in Plant City with about 10 members. Within a year, rehearsals moved to a larger facility in the Lithia area and membership grew to nearly 50 members. The band also became a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
The band now rehearses weekly in Brandon and more than 60 members. The band has become an integral part of the Eastern Hillsborough County community and performs throughout the Tampa Bay region.
Our members range from amateurs to seasoned professionals from a variety of backgrounds. They include music educators, business professionals and retirees. Every member is a volunteer. Members are not required to "pay to play." Instead, we are funded by our generous donors and proceeds from our concerts. Membership is open to all residents of the Tampa Bay area and its nearby counties.
Since its founding, EHCB has been conducted by J. Kevin Lewis,(current conductor), Ken Watts, John Sinibaldi and Shanna Holland. Learn more about our conductors here.
